Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths Draft Weekend

While the COVID-19 pandemic persists, GameKnight’s in-store gaming events have been put on hold. We miss hosting you all here, and are eager to have you back once restrictions lift and it becomes safe to game together again. Information on this page reflects our events as they used to occur, and how they hopefully will again.

For any updates that may come out as the situation progresses, stay tuned to our social media.

Along with the release of the new Magic: The Gathering set, we are holding drafts throughout the weekend! As always we’ve got our Friday Night Magic Draft at 6:30 pm on release day, April 24th. Following that, we’ve got two drafts on Saturday, April¬†25th¬†starting at 12:00 pm and 4:00 pm, and one draft on Sunday,¬†April 26th starting at 1:00 pm.

Drafts will cost $20 each with one prize voucher added to the prize pool per person and prizing distributed to the top half of each pod. First Place is guaranteed 3 prize vouchers or may choose to roll over to the next draft with a free entry. Launch weekend promos will also be distributed along with each draft. (While supplies last)

What is draft?

Draft is a limited format designed for ideally six to eight players. Players each get three packs of the set and sit around a table together. Each player opens their first booster, looks at the cards inside, chooses one card among them, and sits it face down in front of them. After everyone has done this, each player passes the remaining cards from the pack to their left, whilst also receiving a pack from the right, and the process repeats itself until all the cards from each pack have been chosen. The process starts again with the second pack being passed to the right. Third pack then gets passed to the left again as shown below.

The goal of a draft is to pick cards of mostly one or two colors, and to build a 40-card deck including basic lands and play a three round swiss tournament of best of three matches.
