First off, we want to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season. Your support has been incredible; we wouldn’t still be around if it wasn’t for you, our amazing customers, and we will do everything we can to keep earning and being worthy of that support. Thank you everyone, so much.
It’s been a unique two years, that’s for sure, and we haven’t yet seen the end of the tribulations. We will continue, as always, to do our best ensuring everyone, customers and staff both, are as safe as possible. We are constantly monitoring the pandemic situation in our city, province, and country, and reevaluating our response to it is a day-to-day struggle. What we can tell you, right now, is that we WILL return to in-store gaming and events, but we don’t yet know when. Rest assured, we will be lighting a veritable signal beacon of incredible excitement once we’re ready to get back to it, so stay tuned for more information in the new year.
This year, GameKnight will be closed on Boxing Day. We recognize that Boxing Day is a massive shopping day in Canada, and in years past, we’ve certainly done our share of big sales and door crashers, with huge crowds stuffing the store. And don’t get us wrong, we love doing that and we miss it. But after much deliberation and consideration, we’ve decided it is the right thing to do to not be open to the public on Boxing Day, for a variety of reasons.
First off, as I’m sure everyone can agree, Christmas Day is not an actual day of rest for most people. It’s a day filled with family gatherings and social demands, which while not unwelcome, can certainly be draining. Add to this the demands of retail during the holidays, not the least of which would be Boxing Day, and we’ve deemed it not unfair to give our incredible staff a much-deserved actual day off. They work incredibly hard to make GameKnight great, and we wouldn’t be here without them.
Secondly, based on our experience in pre-pandemic years, if we were open to the public on Boxing Day, the store would be at capacity and a line outside waiting to get in for the entire day. Knowing Winnipeg winters, that line could be sitting out in anywhere from 0 degrees to -40 degrees, which is certainly not fun.
While it was not an easy or clear-cut decision, and prioritizes health and safety over our bottom line, we’ve decided that closing on Boxing Day this year is the right move for everyone involved.
HOWEVER,
That doesn’t mean we won’t have some amazing deals on Boxing Day! On Boxing Day, you’ll find over 200 items available at an incredible 25% off regular price. These items will be available on our webstore for the entire day, while supplies last, and includes everything from select Magic: the Gathering booster boxes, prerelease packs, and pre-constructed decks to some super-hot board games and card games and roleplaying games and more.
