Book Of The Month October 2025

Everybody loves October. The leaves change and the smell of petrichor fills the air as apple and pumpkin spice floods the shelves. People start cozying up and getting their last hikes and outdoor adventures in for the year. And of course, something is killing the children.

Or at least there is in our October book(series) of the month! The Eisner Award nominated graphic novel series Something is Killing The Children by author James Tynion the IV and artist Werther Dell'Edera. The series follows the work of Erika Slaughter, a monster hunter from the shadowy organization The House of Slaughter who is charged with keeping monsters secret and stopping them from causing harm as she arrives in the small town of Archer’s Peak. They have a problem, children are disappearing and turning up dead and panic is setting in as people turn to the logical conclusion that a serial killer is on the loose.

But Erika knows better, and to get to the truth all one must do is follow the bodies.

The series is a fun take on the classic monster hunter tropes, blending moments of atmospheric horror juxtaposed against peaks of visceral violence and carnage where no choice is correct and all actions must be lived with and atoned for. With absolutely fantastic art that uses gorgeous colour choices to really push and make all of the important moments pop. Fair warning a lot of the content can be rather gory and the art does accentuate this as well so if you’re not good with that kind of content especially when it pertains to children I might suggest skipping out on this one. But if you like action packed monster fights and horror it is an absolute blast.

We will probably only keep the first three trade paperbacks which cover the first story arc in physical stock due to space limitations but if you want to order in any of the hardcovers or further volumes you are definitely welcome to do so and if you place your name down for any before the end of October 2025 we’ll carry the Book of the Month discount over so you’ll still get it. Just ask any of the staff at the tills to assist.

The series is on sale now just in time for the Halloween season.
